Biden gets his THIRD booster shot

President Joe Biden received his third COVID booster shot on Tuesday and encouraged all Americans to get their next shot in the arms ahead of the holidays.

‘The truth is not enough people are getting’ their booster, the president said. ‘Get the shot.’

He warned, that with cases rising in Europe as the cold weather comes, the death rate could spike in the United States.

‘Let me be as plain as I can. We still have hundreds of people dying each day from covid in this country. Hundreds. That number is likely to rise this winter. But this year is different from the past. This year nearly every death is preventable,’ he said.

‘New variants emerge here in the US and around the world,’ he noted, adding that it was important to get updated shots as ‘the weather getting colder; people will spend more time indoors.’

In September, Biden told CBS’ 60 Minutes that the pandemic was over. But the administration has been preparing for an uptick in cases this winter when people are inside more.

Biden, 79, was joined by Dr. Anthony Fauci, Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra, Surgeon General Vivek Murthy and his COVID response coordinator Ashish Jha as he got his shot. It was his fifth shot overall..

‘This is a global health emergency,’ Biden said, urging Congress to fund more money for testing and vaccination.

‘As we enter this new moment in the battle against covid, let’s use it to start fresh as a country, to put all the old battles over covid behind us. To put all the partisan politics aside. We’ve already lost over 1 million Americans to covid,’ he said.

‘We can do so much now to reduce the number of people who die from this terrible disease. We have the tools. We have the vaccines. We have the treatments. None of this is about politics. It’s about your health,’ he added.

Amid fears of a spike in COVID cases this winter, the administration is launching a public service campaign to push Americans to get the latest protection from the BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants of Omicron.

There will be a series of new national and local TV, radio and print ads geared at reaching Black and Latino audiences, which are communities that have historically been underserved.

Additionally Medicare will send email reminders to the 16 million people on its email list; and the president alos will ask employers and school leaders to spread the word about vaccination.

The leaders of Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid, and Albertson’s were at the event.

America is currently recording about 360 Covid deaths a day. At the same time last year the country was registering more than 1,600 a day

Biden’s Covid vaccination and infection timeline

President Joe Biden has had four Covid vaccinations so far, and also tested positive for the virus once.

Tuesday he will get the updated ‘bivalent’ booster vaccine — his fifth inoculation.

Below is a timeline of Biden’s vaccinations and when he caught Covid:

December 21, 2020: First dose

January 11, 2021: Second dose

September 20, 2021: First booster

March 30, 2022: Second booster

July 21, 2021: Catches Covid

Nearly four months after his last Covid shot the President tests positive for the virus.

He had only a mild illness, and tested negative five days later after beginning a course of Paxlovid to suppress the virus.

But by July 30 he had tested positive again, suffering a ‘rebound’ infection.

Biden received his updated booster shot.

Biden called for each school district, college and university to host at least one vaccination clinic by Thanksgiving. He also urged employers to offer paid time off for vaccination and host on-site vaccination clinics for employees.

‘Virtually every covid death in America is preventable. Virtually every one. Almost everyone who will die from covid this year will not be up to date on their shots or they will not have taken paxlovid when they got sick,’ the president said.

Despite calls for all to get inoculated by Halloween, barely 20 million people — or just 8.5 per cent of those who are eligible more than a month into the drive — have got the jab.

Health chiefs are recommending the updated boosters for all under-5s who are already fully vaccinated.

It comes amid warning signs Covid cases are now turning upwards in 15 states, as well as concerns over other respiratory viruses this year.

‘The challenge with holiday seasons every year is it’s also a time where contagious respiratory viruses — like influenza, RSV, and, again this year, COVID — spread much more quickly,’ Jha said at a press briefing earlier this month.

‘And we have seen an increase in COVID infections, hospitalizations, and deaths each of the last two winters,’ he noted.

Jha said the administration is expecting an uptick in COVID cases over the next couple of months.

‘We’re going to see more infections as we get into November, December, January. That’s what we saw the last couple of winters, so that’s not surprising,’ he said.

Many European nations are seeing an uptick in cases. But there is no sign that these new variants are more likely to cause severe disease or death than other versions of Omicron.

Biden received his updated booster about three months after he tested positive for the virus in July — which is the lag time health chiefs said should be left after an infection.

His last jab was on March 30 this year, when he got his second booster jab to shore-up immunity for the summer.

Biden’s initial inoculations were on December 21, 2020 and January 11, 2021. He also got his first booster on September 20 last year.

Despite getting all the vaccines, however, Biden tested positive for the disease in July last year.

He initially had a mild illness, and was put on anti-viral Paxlovid which saw his infection all but disappear within five days.

But another four days later he tested positive again in what is known as a ‘rebound infection’.

He was cleared of the virus again on August 7 this year.

Jill Biden tested positive for a covid a few weeks later, on August 16, when the family was wrapping up its vacation in South Carolina.

The US is currently recording about 36,400 cases every day on average.

About 367 people are also dying with the virus every 24 hours on average.

For comparison, at the same time last year the tally was more than 1,600 every 24 hours.
