A 68-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man, 49, died this morning in a small town in rural West Sussex.

Officers responded to a report of a man unconscious in Storrington at 10.05am before the man was pronounced dead.

Residents allege the pensioner and the victim had been arguing over a dog, but police have yet to confirm that detail.

Portions of the town remain condoned off by police as officers and forensics specialists continued to investigate Sunday night. A police tent was also placed in the town centre.

Authorities believe the killing was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Police have not publicly named the victim but say his family is being supported.
