Mother and baby injured in Milwaukee hit-and-run while trick-or-treating
One-year-old Carson Lay’s first experience trick-or-treating will be a memorable one for his mom, Linda Scott, but for all the wrong reasons. The two were meeting up with family Saturday night in Milwaukee’s Humboldt Park when Scott said a driver hit multiple cars and injured multiple people, including her and her son. She said the car hit the two of them while they were standing between parked cars on the side of the street. “During the incident when I was knocked out, I was told that my son was under the car. He was still inside his stroller but right in front of her tire,” she told WISN 12 News Monday. Scott says her fiance got Carson out of his stroller. Seconds later, they said the driver took off. Witnesses describe the car as a dark-colored SUV. Milwaukee County deputies are still searching for that vehicle and its driver. “What possessed you to hit a mother and her child that was in a stroller and then kept pressing the gas pedal to the point where you almost killed my child?” Scott said. “Especially on a day where kids are trick or treating, it could have been anybody.”Scraped and bruised, Carson was released from the hospital Monday afternoon. Scott said she’s still sore from her injuries. And yet, she’s feeling gratitude. “Thankful is the first emotion that comes to mind because my son is here. I’m here. Thank God. We had people come out of nowhere helping. That shows there’s hope in the world,” she said. Carson will celebrate his first birthday Thursday, the same day Humboldt Park Friends will meet in the park’s pavilion at 7 p.m. to discuss ways they can slow traffic down in that area. If anyone has any information about the hit and run, they are asked to call the sheriff’s office.
